The Korean War Veterans Memorial The Korean War Veterans Memorial was built to honor the men and women who fought in the “ Forgotten War”. Dedicated in the year 1995, the memorial was a symbol for those who helped defend South Korea from being overtaken by North Korea. North Korea was no small threat to the world; in fact, it was deemed a threat to all democratic nations. The memorial features 19 steel figures, a wall of remembrance, and a granite curb which features all 22 countries that fought in this war. The Korean War Veterans Memorial is a sign that shows America’s selfless soldiers who fought for freedom they didn’t even know. The Korean War Veterans Memorial has a wonderful location and includes a great design. The architectural design of the memorial encompasses a mass amount of interesting features. One of which is the Wall of Remembrance, which includes 36,574 American service members and 7,200 members of the Korean Agency. It serves as a great way to commemorate the fallen heroes. It also features 19 steel figures to honor a U.S. patrol squad. It commemorates all ethnic backgrounds depicted on the soldiers. It has a kiosk where you can learn about the veterans. It includes a mural wall of 24k photos and is a great way to remember the “forgotten war”. Lastly it consists of a pool of remembrance and a wall of remembrance that includes the words “ Freedom is not Free”. The memorial was designed by Cooper-Lecky architects. They were chosen for the project due to their respectable design that relates to the important historical significance. The Korean War was deemed a threat to all democratic nations. The soldiers who fought in the war were heroes to all. They didn’t have a backup plan, they didn’t know what to expect, and they didn’t know who they were fighting for and fighting
