Mission Statement
A mission statement is a group of sentences that set the foundation for an organization. It defines the direction the company should follow and offers the basic layout for future strategies. Abel’s framework formulates three questions that can help build an effective mission statement. In case a company already has one, the statement must answer all three questions effectively in order to verify that the mission statement represents what they do. The mission statement of an successful company should reply to the following questions:
1. Who are the customers of the organization?
2. How can the organization meet its customer’s needs?
3. What techniques does the organization use to meet the customer’s needs (Van Vielt, 2012)?

Kroger stands by this mission statement by striving to be the leader in all areas of grocery and health retailing through an array of stores where consumers can obtain a multitude of items. However, the mission statement fails to answer all of Abel’s framework questions which suggest that the company’s mission statement does not explicitly state how Kroger Co. plans on achieving their consumer’s satisfaction goal. In fact, with regards to the three dimensions of Abel’s framework, Kroger’s mission statement aligns with the first two dimensions but fails to elaborate on the last
