French painter Georges Seurat employed oil on canvas to paint Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte in the year 1884. The painting itself was revolutionary for its time, presenting neo-impressionistic technique in a period when impressionism was the dominant art style. Each of the 52 figures in La Grande Jatte are sporting unpainted faces and similar body structures.
