Experiment 1: Scientific Measurements

Chemistry 1250

Purpose:
Know the mass, volume, temperature and density.
Find the correct way to read scale values.
Find the mass, volume, temperature and density of water.

Procedure:
1. Use beaker collects 200 mL water.
2. Use thermometer to find the temperature of water.
3. Use Analytical balance finds the weight of 100 mL beaker.
4. Use 25-mL buret collect 5 mL, 10 mL, 15 mL, and 20 mL water. And use analytical balance find the weight of these four different samples.
5. Use Graduated cylinder collect 5 mL, 10 mL, 15 mL, and 20 mL water. And use analytical balance find the weight of these four different samples.
6. Use pipet collect 10 mL, 20 mL, 30 mL and 40 mL water. And use analytical balance find the weight of these four different samples.
7. Use beaker collect 5mL, 10mL, 15mL, and 20mL water. And use analytical balance find the weight of these four different samples.
8. Collect all the data, and fill in the table.
9. Use the table makes the graph.

Report sheets:
See attached report sheets

Sample Calculations:
Temperature ℉=(9℉/5℃)*℃+32℉
Density= mass/volume

Graph:
See attached graphs.

Report Question:

What is the weight of the 100 mL beaker?
After use the analytical balance, I find the weight of the 100 mL beaker is 49.56g.

What the temperature of the water use ℉,℃?
The temperature of the water is 23.82℃, also it mean 74.88℉.
