RESULTS
In this Lab 12 reactions were performed, causing esters to be formed from alcohols reacting with acids. Salicylic acid was reacted with methyl alcohol to produce methyl salicylate. The resulting odor was a mint eucalyptus. Acetic acid was reacted with n-pentyl alcohol to produce n-pentyl acetate. The resulting odor was banna berry like smell. Propanoic acid was reacted with n-pentyl alcohol to produce pentyl propanoate. The resulting odor was watermelon, berry grape like odor.
