The Principal at Lackawanna Trail employs many tactics in order to motivate the families to become involved with their children’s education. The principal, along with every faculty member in the school, sends out a letter in the beginning of each school year regarding what their philosophy is and any contact information that the parents may need. The faculty members also send out information to parents pertaining to any upcoming field trips, special events, or special projects. Along with these methods of involving parents in their children’s education, the school is always available for school visits or open houses. The only regulation is that the parents must call ahead of time. This allows adequate time for a faculty member to show the parents around and for the teachers to know who is coming into their classrooms. At Lackawanna Trail, parents have their own meetings to discuss school matters such as curriculum being taught to their children, extra curricular activities, and advocacy towards a better learning environment for their children. The parents also help run school events such as bake sales and booster clubs. In addition, parents can help teachers understand the progress that their students need and are achieving by communicating (verbally and nonverbally) about their studies at home. Lackawanna Trail also has a strong link with the community. They have various field trips for all ages all around the community. They also host guest speakers to discuss topics such as bullying, self-awareness, and other exceedingly important topics. Finally, the school displays their strong link to community through their various community outreach programs. Some of these programs include cleaning their environment, helping the elderly, and providing seminars and meetings about the community and how it can be
