I thoroughly enjoyed my day spent interacting with the children at Lake Washington Pre School. It was a fantastic learning opportunity to be able to observe the children throughout the day and watch how the different age groups interacted with one another. I loved how well the teachers worked with the children and how well they managed the children’s behavior even when at times some of the children’s behavior appeared challenging. I found the whole day very enjoyable, although it was difficult to not intervening and assist the teachers when the child were misbehaving.

The manager was very welcoming and informative on our arrival. Although there was an issue with staffing, she took the time to show us around and check in with the other nursing students and I throughout the day. I found the experience beneficial to my learning needs as I have not had a great deal of exposure to working with children directly.
Prior to this clinical, I completed similar placements within my UK nurse training, almost ten years ago. Since those experiences I have only interacted with family members children. I was a little hesitant going into the classrooms as I was unsure what to expect. I was unsure on how the children would take to a strange person being within their classroom and I was a little unsure on how I would engage and interact with the children. I was quickly put at ease when I entered the first classroom and the children and teachers were extremely inviting.
Throughout the day I observed the teachers and children partake in their daily routines during preschool. I interacted with the children, joining them with puzzles, painting and games and also spent some time playing outdoors. I assisted the teachers encouraging the children to follow the rules and ensuring the children played
