Lamar Hunt is credited with naming the Super Bowl and coming up with idea to use roman numerals for the Super Bowl. But in the late 1950’s Lamar Hunt was rejected numerous times by the National Football League when he tried to get a team in Dallas . The American Football League came about because the NFL refused to allow Lamar Hunt to start a team in Dallas, Texas (Tucker, 2006). Just think the NFL might not even have the American Football Conference; which consists of 10 teams originally from the AFL, if not for Hunt acting on his vision. In the book “Lamar Hunt And Founding Of The AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE” by Tom Richey, discusses how Lamar Hunt and eight individuals, came together to form the AFL (Richey, 2009). The first person Hunt sold his vision to was Bud Adams; see Adams was trying to get an NFL team in Houston, like Hunt was trying to get a team in Dallas, Adams was rejected by the NFL as Hunt was, using inspirational motivation Hunt convinced Adams they should start the AFL, this was not a hard sell; so when Hunt asked Adams to join him in starting the AFL Adam’s said “Hell Yes” (Richey, 2009). A flexor is one who monitors the contributions of team members but keeps the process moving along. A flexor can fill three of the four roles, which contributes to the production of the team and they can focus on everything. Also flexors can connect and negotiate with all types of personalities (BCEE, 2017d). Hunt was good at being a flexor, hence this statement “It was a gargantuan task to manage and motivate this group. Many testified if it wasn’t for Lamar’s quiet strength, the AFL would have failed” (Richey, 2009 pg 107) The group of owners were a mixed bag of personalities and this is why they dubbed themselves “The Foolish Club” (Richey, 2009 pg107) In the article “Characteristics of Visionary Leadership” by Monica Patrick she says “visionary leaders constantly remind their team of the big picture”(Patrick, 2014), and displays traits of good communication, charismatic, strategic, and take risks. I believe Lamar Hunt displayed these traits and he was a visionary leader (Patrick, 2014). Lamar Hunt faced a tough decision as he was creating the AFL and
