On October 20, 2014 there was a dreadful tragedy, Laquan McDonald was shot to death 16 times. A Chicago police officer spent about 13 seconds firing at Laquan McDonald as he laid on the cold street, emptying his pistol and then reloading it. The black teen never made any signs of wanting to fight back. Van Dyke which was the officer’s name who stood approximately 15 feet away from McDonald. For at least a year, officials of Chicago refused to release the dash cam of Laquan McDonald. McDonald suffered wounds basically to every part of his body. They had no other choice but to release the video considering the fact that a lot of negative press had come to light following the shooting. After all was said and done, Chicago as a whole came together downtown to boycott black Friday and protest for 16 days. However, in order for you to understand the pain and anger behind this, you must first know what lead to this. Racial inequality amongst African American and Caucasians was basically started by slavery. Slavery divided African Americans and Caucasians. There was no common ground between the two. There is clearly a big difference between blacks and whites. An obvious few are, the incarceration rate, earnings, the unemployment rate, and health factors. There is a saying that says “If you want to hide something from a black person put it in a book”. This was a quote that was used to taunt blacks during slavery because they couldn’t read. The damage done to the African-Americans in general may very well be irreversible and that's scary. The big issue is that in a way Caucasian people have taken the life out of African-Americans because all of the pain and torture they had to go
