‘Bang, bang, bang!’ The shots ring in our ears. We freeze. My hand shakes and the chunk of metal drops from my grasp. His knees drop, followed by the rest of his body, in what seems to be slow motion. My attention is stolen; an Eagle off in the distance, perches, glances at me. Its eyes swirl; it sends a tingle down my spine. I snap right out of it to my friend, Kevin, shaking my shoulder. “Jake! Jake! Are you ok?” Dust rises, I further Kevin as I shrink to the perspective of distance. What happened?”
“Jake, you were walking along the path and there was a red laser spot that appeared on the rear of your left shoulder. I yelled at you to warn you of a potential danger of your life, but you ignored me.”
I swing my legs to the side off of the bed and remove all medical attachment from my arms, I leave the room. Kevin comes up to me and tells me that I have been in a coma for three months, and in that time a lot has happened. The World has broken out into a war, but luckily for us, Australia was excluded from the current conflict of the war, for now. He keeps extending on the news that has broken during my coma, deaths, the war, and the increasing tension between countries. I enter a street front shop, I stuff a drink and a bag of snakes up my shirt and run from the store. I run for what feels like years, plus the sweat dripping down my face and the fact that I’ll now have to wait before opening it to ensure that it doesn’t explode. I find a bench and sit down, opposite Kevin. We start chatting, then my attention is drawn to the flap of wings and the landing of an eagle. I look into its eyes, they swirl and change colour, like the one that was there after I shot Ed with the gun. The snakes spill, the drink bounces onto the ground and spills to a crack in the concrete. Kevin notices and swivels around to see what is happening, he is also brought under the power of the eagle’s hypnotism. We both lose all function of our bodies and fall to the floor.
