Some students are hampered by the late school start time while others prefer the extra sleep it provides. This causes a dispute over which start time works more optimally. An way to solve this issue is the addition of zero hour. While the thinking for the later start time is that students would get more sleep; however, due to the later start time students encounter difficulties with morning and afternoon traffic, after-school activities, and minimum study time. Students who plan to continue their career in college athletics are involved in teams that are not affiliated with Faith and practice after school. These students are hampered with their ability to practice with their teams due to a later school end time. These students need maximum amount of time after school to practice and study, and they would benefit from an earlier school time. Students who live farther away have complained of leaving at the around the same time as when school started earlier because of traffic. This is an enormous problem since the majority of students live outside of Grapevine. Furthermore, Faith activities end much later due to the late start time. For example, cheer practice often ends as late as 6:30 on school nights. School starts and ends later, so cheer practice also begins and ends later. This means that students are getting home later and have less time to complete homework. On the other hand, some students prefer the later school start time. Students who are not involved in as many after school activities enjoy the later start time since they can sleep in longer.
