In today’s films the public is shown many different kinds of stereotypes. They are shown different stereotypes from different cultures. In many cases the stereotypes that are shown are really meant to be harmless, but in the long run the idea is that it is making generalizations about a culture. Some of the stereotypes that represent the Latino community are the films that show that Latinos as the clowns or the buffoons. Although these stereotypes are merely used for comedy, the message sent to other people can lead to the assumptions that every Latino acts like they do in the show. The image that people receive is that Hispanics are the funny or somewhat clueless. Not to say that humor is a bad thing but the expectation that a Latino will be funny takes away from the seriousness of their character. That effectively takes away from people looking at the community as anything but funny. The point is there is much more to the Latino community then what the people are shown in the films. Some movies show the language barrier between the Latino culture and the other cultures of the United States. The United States is made up of so many cultures and these culture come from areas all over the world. Although one of the most used cultures to make fun of is usually the Latino community. A great example is the movie Napoleon Dynamite, specifically Pedro. Just the name alone is stereotypical, not to mention the accent and the appearance of this character.
