Today we saw three students. The first student was a 19 year old female, came with a complain of cut in her left hand from a broken glass. It happened on Saturday when she was washing a glass in the kitchen sink. She stopped the blood by pressing hard on the cut. She washed her hand and applied a butter fly band aid dressing on it. She had a physical activity class today. She asked the teacher if she could be excused from the strenuous activity today. The teacher did not allow, while she was doing the physical activity, she noticed blood coming out from her cut. She put pressure the on the cut and applied a band aid dressing on it. We assessed her wound, no bleeding noted and wound was closed, and edges were smooth. Slight swelling noted around the wound. We cleaned her wound with normal saline, pat dried, and applied steri-strips, to help keep the wound closed. Mary, FNP also applied some Bacitracin ointment and covered with non-adhesive dressing and wrapped with Koflex. The student was advised to go to ER if she has fever, drainage, redness or, feels warm at the wound site, or if the swelling get worse and have pain. We also …show more content…
She did not have any fever and denied sharing of drinking cup with anybody. We asked her, if she has a history of sore throat in the past? Or, if anybody else have it in her surrounding area, she denied. We assessed, the sore and noticed a red colored bump with no sign of pus, or any fluid noted inside. It looked like a cold sore, but it could be a spider bite, too. Mary cleaned it with saline and applied a little bit of bacitracin ointment. She advised the student, that she can either take Zyrtec or Claritin. Or, she can wait, 2-3 days to see if it resolves by itself. Usually cold sore gets better within a week. She also told the student, to go the Emergency Room, if she has fever, or if the sore gets bigger, redder, and more
