The play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragedy about two “star crossed lovers”. At the end of the play the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet die. With many people to blame who is the main person to blame for Romeo and Juliet's deaths? Friar Lawrence is most to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.

The secret wedding of Romeo and Juliet could not happen without Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence makes a bad decision to marry Romeo and Juliet even though he knows it will cause problems. Friar Lawrence says, "this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love." (Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 98-99) This shows that Friar Lawrence has hope of their marriage to work. This is not true. Capulet says, “Content thee, gentle coz. Let him alone.”(Act 1, Scene 5, Line 74) Romeo sneaked into Capulet’s party but Capulet doesn’t mind. At this point the feud between the two families has been dormant as seen by Capulet’s calmness towards Romeo. Even though that may be true Tybalt would never agree to Romeo and Juliet being together because of his hatred toward the Montagues. Tybalt says, “’Tis he, that villain Romeo.” At the party when he saw Romeo he wanted to kill him. He resented him. Even though that may be true as time passes he could be convinced that the Montagues are not villains and learn to accept them. The families could unite. If it wasn’t for Friar Lawrence and his hastiness Romeo and Juliet could’ve worked successfully. Friar Lawrence should’ve been patient and discussed it with both families. In time both families would understand and accept each other. None of this could happen because of Friar Lawrence. Even Friar Lawrence says, "...a short date of breath."
