Shakespeare wrote the book Macbeth and in the story, the main character gains leadership by murdering his king. The main character is named Macbeth, and he becomes king and ruler over his nation. Though he had gained great power, he had also gained responsibility. Great leaders have high standards and, therefore, they conduct in a moral manner. They lead the group by putting themselves last. Leaders know how to communicate well to people, speaking in a respectful tone. Good leaders need to contain moral obligations within themselves because they do not only represent themselves but everyone under their leadership.

A good leader never lets his own desires be a priority over the needs of the group. In Macbeth, he made his goals and wishes come before the needs of his subjects. Not on one page in the book does it say of the concern Macbeth had for his people. A good leader should be there for his people, ready to serve them and not ready to be served. In the bible, Jesus was and is a leader to all who follow him. He told his disciples that the greatest in the kingdom will be the one who serves the most. In an article about the scandal at Penn State it states that “Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator under Paterno, has been charged with sexually abusing eight boys [over] a 15-year period, and Paterno has been widely criticized for failing to involve the police when he learned of an allegation of one assault of a young boy in 2002.” Here in this incident, Paterno is a bad leader. Even though he was not the one who committed the crime, he knew of it and didn’t speak up. In this situation, if Paterno had spoken up as soon as he found out, many of those children wouldn’t have been sexually abused and scarred for life. Like this situation, Lady Macbeth falls under being a bad leader. Lady Macbeth is the wife of Macbeth and his partner in crime. She was the one who had planned the whole murder out but months later Lady Macbeth was feeling the guilt and shame for her involvement in this murder. If she had been a good leader she would have reported it to the authorities, before Macbeth got himself into deeper waters. Instead, she chooses to hold onto her guilt and eventually commit suicide.
