• Leadership Mission Statement

My mission statement would read: To provide focused, consistent, and excellent customer service for all patrons and staff, as well as to inspire lifelong learning and a global mindset through connections to information and people within the library and the greater community that we serve.
• Reason Behind my mission statement
The entire reason I am in library school is based upon multiple experiences I had at my previous neighborhood library. I had never experienced before such a wonderfully connected and diverse community, that ordinarily would not have interacted with each other. At this point in time I will continue to focus on classes in school that work to develop the necessary skills to be successful within the information world. As part of the upcoming semester in addition to the formal classes that I will be taking, I will also be working on a practicum that is focused on creating a formalized internship program at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. There will be a concentration on surveying and interviewing previous interns to identify areas of improvement, or ways that the center can improve its customer service to the interns and library staff. I am excited about this process and see a lot of value to be gained, especially around understanding different ways to improve or apply raving fans style customer service to employees. This has been my personal vision for a long time, but that has not come without issues. The struggle starts when trying to realize that vision, as it is quite large in scope. And although my vision has not changed, after our son was born, I learned to focus on more attainable versions of my vision. I still want to save the world, but my first more focused attempt came under the title Leftover Love. Basically I created an initiative for restaurants to offer simple incentives for people to bring in their own leftover containers. It was an environmental idea aimed at source reduction. I was clear in my vision, and on my own I was able to get 3 local restaurants to participate in the incentive program. I was focused and I realized my vision, but there is always more to do (and also we moved). I learned that while I can still think big, simple and focused visions are more easily attained, and move me closer to my bigger goal. Simplicity offers the chance to clearly organize your vison.
