1. Describe your ideal study environment
My ideal study environment is quiet and well-spaced out. I like to use my dining room table from time to time so I can have plenty of room. Occasionally I will also turn on soft music for background noise.
2. List some of the distractions that might hinder your study progress or your performance in an online classroom.
My home life can be a bit busy with young children playing and going around the house. The normal household activities like cell phones and TV’s are always around you making noise. People tend to think that online classes can wait since they are on your computer, they don’t always understand the deadlines are the same, you just don’t have travel time to deal with.
3. What actions can you take to manage and eliminate distractions?
If necessary leave your home and go to a quiet book store or coffee shop, for example. Schedule some time for you to focus on school work when no one or less family members are home. If you can’t seem to get out of your house, possibly headphones with light music could drown out the background noise. I personally like to focus on my online classes when my children are asleep.
4. How will you apply your personal learning style? How does your personal Learning style affect your study habits?
My personal learning style is very adaptive, online school is new for me but seems to be going very well. Your personal style affects your study habits through interpretation and memory. The ability to adapt and retain new styles of learning is very important, especially in today’s technologically driven world. Online classes help me learn at a pace that suites me very well.
5. List 5 effective study strategies from this week that you will use. Explain why you selected them and why they are effective strategies for online learning.
Visual- the use of note cards and notes to highlight topics. This helps me to recall information
Musical- Music relaxes me when I feel stressed. I can associate a song I listen to while studying and associate it with the study material.
Logic- Using real life situation to apply the material I’ve learned. Reflecting on the topic and visualizing it in a real life scenario helps to associate a real life use.
Naturalistic- Studying outside is refreshing and calming. Keeping yourself aware of your surroundings and the impact on the environment
Intrapersonal- Studying in a quiet area is important for me. I find the calm and quiet area the best way for me to retain…
