Being a mathematic learning coach in the Gateway to College program has always an rewarded experience to me. The program at Laney College helps disadvantaged youth re-enter the educational system. I has been told this will be a challenging journey, but I think I’m blessed to get to know the students. I specialize in math and I always try to show the students how what they are studying is linked to the real world. I know more than a regular tutor job, that the reason why I am called “Learning Coach”, I have to help students to make significant changes on their life. Therefore, I try my best to understand and encourage every student and to instill within them an optimistic attitude towards education. Together with the the program director, counselors, teacher and other coach, I have learned to and working with other people. Its has been good for my self-esteem and to help develop myself both socially and professionally. However, there are many other factors which make make significant contribution to that success including I’m an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science major, and I’m indeed, enjoy working with computer and I just love the way that the computer has so much potential and what we can do with it is unlimited. Working as a computer scientist also give me the open door to see any other potential field. Computer programming is also the one medium I know of that is a synthesis of both art and science. On an average day, I can work with color theory, mathematical algorithms for sorting, user experience or software solutions.
