Ledbetter vs. Goodyear is a statutory case about an employee discrimination under the Civil Act of 1964. The case became one of the headlines on the news and caught public's attention due to how the Court's decision. Unfortunately, Ledbetter lost her case in the Supreme Court for she filed her complaint to the EEOC over the time period. During her trial, she claimed that her supervisor in the past gave her poor evaluation on her work performance due to her gender. In result, her salary did not increase as much as she would thought it would be. With that incidents, it affected her salary throughout her entire employment in the company. Lilly Ledbetter began to work for Goodyear company in 1979 at Gadsden, Alabama. She started same salary as her other male coworkers who got hired the same time as her. During 1979-1981, she received a series of negative evaluations from her supervisor, which later she claimed were discriminatory. After several years of good evaluations, her salary never even reached the level of similar male employees at her work. She admitted that several of her fellow coworkers told her that her salary is extremely low compared to her other male coworkers who has been working with the company like her. On March 1998, she submitted some papers to EEOC and made a formal complaint in July of 1998 after she found a letter on her locker with all her coworker's salary in it. Lawmakers should make a new law protecting every employee experiencing injustice in their workplace. Looking through the Ledbetter's issue in twenty to thirty years will serves as a good eye opener to every employees in the United States. Although, she did not win her case, she became a public servant and also became the voice of every individual who is fighting for their rights to be treated
