Johnson Smith English 1302 Legalization and Statistics Marijuana is a dry, shredded green and brown mix of leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from the hemp plant “Cannabis sativa”. it is called hashish, and as a sticky black liquid, hash oil. People have been supporting for marijuana to be legalized for years now. But there will always be people that don’t support this. So now in this present time, (2013) people are still debating on the topic. Support for legalizing marijuana has never been higher, but the latest studies show people have been prescription drug misusing. In the latest nationwide survey, one thousand five hundred and one people polled in mid-March about legalizing marijuana, If this is the case I think the United States will use the weed to an advantage. Another seventy two percent said that if the United States were to enforce anti-marijuana laws, it would bring more cost than benefit.
I think the marijuana legalization could boost the economy and help us out in our debt. Because if fifty two percent say it’s ok, imagine how much money will be made just by taxing this drug. Drug legalization could reduce government costs and raise tax revenues, but opponents worry over health and social ills. “It's been feared that marijuana smoke, like tobacco smoke, causes cancer and heart disease. The evidence argues otherwise”, writes Stephen Sidney a MD for British Medical Journal. Marijuana is already believed to be the nation's number one cash crop, exceeding the combined value of wheat and corn. Pot is also the leading cash crop in at least a dozen states, including California and North Carolina.
