Legalize Gay Marriage Yes or No?

Same sex marriage (also known as gay marriage) is marriage between two people of the same sex or gender. January 1, 1973 Maryland was the first to ban same sex marriage which totally reached the USA by 1994. By May 17, 2004 there was one state to legalize gay marriage which was Massachusetts. Well as of now there are 9 states that have legalized gay marriage. I believe gay marriage should be legal because everyone should be treated equal and have certain rights given to them as a citizen of the USA.
Do you think as citizens of the USA people should be treated fairly and have equal rights? Well, I believe yes every man or women should be able to choose who they want to be with. If a man or women choose to be with the same sex why should we stop them? If were happy why should we stop them from being happy? We shouldn’t! If you think about it marriage is a celebration of ones commitment of love with another, who are we to say what is acceptable for who they should or shouldn’t love. Just in 1967 interracial marriage was made legal in the USA. This shows as a society we have a hard time accepting something outside our “traditions” or social norms but it comes back to the point of “all men are created equal” which is stated in our Declaration of Independence. So we shouldn’t stop people or deny their rights as a person to marry who they love, just because they are homosexual. Whether you’re homosexual or heterosexual your rights on who you want to marry should be left up to you as a citizen of the USA.
In theory not yet officially proven though is that you can actually be born with a homosexual mind set. Although some may not agree, I do from experiments and case study’s I’ve read there’s certainty in my mind you can be born a homosexual mind set. A certain study by geneticist Dean Hammer claimed not only to have finally proven that a male or female homosexuality was at least partially genetic but to have also pinpointed the stretch of chromosomes where one of the genes involved resided he went on to find out that it seemed that homosexuality seemed to be inherited through the maternal line the X chromosome. So this study Hammer did is just one of many to help prove or disprove that an individual can be born a homosexual or heterosexual. In study’s so far an in the opinions of most people yes it is possible that a person can be born with a homosexual mind set.
The benefits that come with the same sex marriage are allot more than one person may think. Same sex marriage is proven that it can bring a financial gain to state and local governments because the revenue from gay marriage comes from marriage licenses, higher income taxes and decreased cost for state benefit programs. Legalizing gay marriage would bring $142 million to the city’s economy and $184 million to the state’s economy. Gay marriage will also make it easier for same sex couples to adopt children, a study in 2010 found that children raised by lesbian mothers had a higher rate than heterosexual parents in social and academic completion and had fewer social problem. Another study in 2010 shows that children of gay fathers were just as well adjusted as children rose by heterosexual parents. Same sex marriage also provides both physical and psychological health benefits. Recent research shows that refusing same sex couples to marry has resulted in harmful psychological affects it was said that “allowing same sex couples to marry would give the access to the social support that already facilitates and strengthens heterosexual marriages, with all of the psychological and physical health benefits associated with that support.” So now you can see it’s not just about rights but same sex marriage is also beneficial to everyone around them not just themselves.
It says in the bible 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will
