For the robotics theme in our engineering class, we programmed a Lego Mindstorm NXT robot to complete seven different missions of the Green City Challenge. The last three tasks for our second project included the Dam and Wind Turbine, Solar Panel and Smokestack, and Sorting Trash and Energizing the Green City. Each mission had its difficulty in either the programming or the building. The most difficult missions to complete accurately and precisely were the Smokestack, Solar Panel, and Sorting Trash. Although the tasks were only looking for a reasonable attempt, our goal was to complete the mission to produce precise results. We learned that we may not have the time to attempt all of the missions for the actual challenge as we already have to change the arm twice. Some missions were simple enough to be combined with a …show more content…
Attempting the Sorting Trash mission may require too much time and effort so we plan to opt out of this mission. We replaced mission 4 (Sorting Trash) with mission 2 (Solar Panel) because we were able to complete the Solar Panel mission relatively quickly with fairly precise results. We plan to start with Solar Panel combined with mission 1 (Wind Turbine), using the ultrasonic sensor to receive a maximum of 50 points. After returning to Base Area (BA), we will change the arm to complete mission 5 (Dam) and mission 6 (Smokestack) together for a maximum of 45 points. Finally we will change the arm once more to complete the final mission, Energizing the Green City, and mission 3 (Avoiding the Flower Lady) to total to a maximum of 115 possible points. After we test how much time this plan consumes, we may attempt part of Sorting Trash if time permits to compensate for any points not awarded from previous missions. By completing the mission in this order, we believe we may have a reasonable chance of accomplishing the Green City
