“There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” Steinbeck portrays friendship in the book Of Mice and Men by George taking responsibility of Lennie. I know this because of the quotes I chose from the novella. “God, you’re a lot of trouble, I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail.” Also the novella states, “When I think of the swell time I could have without you, I go nuts. I never get no peace.” And lastly it states, “I told his old lady I’d take care of him.”
The friendships absence affects George and Lennie harshly if they are ever apart. I know this because the novella states, “Cause I can jus’ as well go away and’ live in a cave. I know this because Carlson states in the novella, “Whyn't you get Candy to shoot his old dog.” And he also says, “That dog of Candy’s is so God god damn old he can’t hardly walk.” Lastly the novella states, “The dog raised his head, but when Curley jerked out, the grizzled head sank to the floor again.”
I chose friendship for the theme of this book because I couldn’t imagine George and Lennie ever being
