They say a picture is worth a thousand words; an artist can try and express the emotion and meaning that a painting represents by various techniques. By the use of a color and texture, the artist can frame the way he or she wants the viewer to “feel” that interpret their ideas, while still building their own interpretations of what the painting symbolizes to them. Alley by the Lake, is a knife oil painting on a 30 inch by 24 inch canvas and was painted by Leonid Afremov. Afremov was born on July 12th, 1995 and is a modern impressionistic artist who migrated from Soviet Russia to Israel and later to America in 2002. After his stay in America Afremov relocated to Mexico in 2010.
Alley by the Lake features an array of colors changing from drastic hues and contrasts of dark grays and blues to vibrant and uplifting fall oranges, reds, and yellows. The balance of all these distinct colors creates an impression of a yin and yang effect; it dominates prosperity and bliss while still invoking a melancholy sense. While, behind the couple, the colors on the path are very distinct, clear, and colorful. This could also represent all the good memories the couple have experienced in the past while all the blurriness symbolizes an unknown future and an array challenges that await for them. The use of perspective in this painting also gives the viewer a sense of observing from a distance, by doing this, Afremov can influence the viewer to have an outsider's look and to become curious how long the two have been walking along the lake. The artist use of these particular colors he once again is guiding the viewer. This same concept is often used in movies as the director inserts music into a scene to influence their
