In his TED presentation, “Let’s Use Video to Reinvent Education”, Salman Khan argues that using online educational videos helps student to become proficient in school subjects. Khan argues that the classrooms can be flipped with the use of educational programs. The programs will allow the students to work at their own pace, and give the teachers enough free time to help each individual student. There are programs for every subject ranging from English, Science, and Mathematic, and more. Khan expresses that bringing this program into the schools allows the teachers to concentrate more on the students, rather the lecture. Introducing this program to the classroom also allows the students to interact with each other and help each other more. The …show more content…
I agree with Khan and believe that this program can flip the classrooms. Being able to work on assignments at your own pace, is the main resolution to failing students. Over 10% of students fail because they couldn’t grasp on to the lecture in a timely manner. In his presentation “Let’s use video to reinvent education” Khan states,” that good students start failing suddenly because they have swiss cheese gaps” (9:13). In many cases this true, the student can have an overall understanding of the concept, but in certain spots they don’t understanding how to get from point A to point B. The teachers will no longer have to concentrate on the lecture, but have time to interact with any students that need assistance. Khan’s program allows the teacher to be able to track each students progress. The tracking shows where the students are excelling and where they are struggling. Since the teacher is now allowing the program to teach the students, they have more time to sit down with the students that are struggling and assist them. Khan stated,” Most of the teacher’s times is used on grading tests and lectures, only 5% is spent actually sitting next to a student” (15:00-15:09). Now that Khan’s program eliminates the lectures and test grading the students have 100% of the teacher’s time. Another excellent point, with the tracking system notifying who is excelling and who isn’t, the students can now interact with each other. If a student is struggling in one point another student can assist him/her in that area if he/she is excelling in the said area. This allows the students to interact just as well as the teachers interacting. Khan called this interaction,” humanizing the classroom”
