To whomever it may concern,

I am writing this letter in response to the ongoing accusation of John Proctor practising witchcraft in light of the recent events that has led up to this allegation. I have known Proctor for many years as a sincere and honest man with an undeniable love for his wife, Elizabeth Proctor. After reading your article about the indictment of Proctor, I was absolutely appalled at his acts and find it very difficult to believe that what I have read is true. Therefore, I am against this accusation and firmly believe that Proctor was under the possession of the dark arts when he performed this alarming act.

Witchcraft allegations have run rampant in this town with nearly every family having at least one member accused of performing the dark arts. At many witch trials, an enormous majority of the results have resulted in innocents being executed. At the same time, the real people who have committed witchcraft continue to run freely throughout the town. I believe that it is time to replace our witch hunting system with a new order to better find witches. We should also improve our interrogation system as a large percentage of execution for supposed witches were innocent and did not have any connection to the dark arts. The reason why numerous amounts of people were executed is because of how accusations that may be false can spread quickly throughout the town. I highly suggest that the officers of the town should investigate these accusations more carefully and only persecute if there’s substantial evidence against the accused. By improving our witch hunting system, we can easily find townsfolk performing witchcraft including whomever is possessing Proctor under the dark
