Dear Senator Schumer, Why doesn’t the United States have universal health care? The answer I found due to research of Battista and McCabe (1999) is, “the US denies access to health care based on the ability to pay(1999).” If we keep supporting the Health Reform, your citizens will have stable, affordable lives. The majority of your citizens that are uninsured are low/middle class citizens; most of the uninsured are the people who need the most care. If we continue to support the Health Reform, health care providers (and health insurance companies) will no longer be able to deny health coverage due to preexisting conditions. Should the health care system in itself stay constant, the government will be sending more and more people to the grave. Due to the denial of health insurance, based upon income and preexisting conditions, most of the population that have terminal or hereditary illnesses will not get the care that’s necessary for their well being. The medications and physical therapy that senior citizens need as their bodies start to fail them, will not be provided to keep their bodies stable. “Six months after the enactment, insurance companies cannot deny a child coverage based on preexisting,” said Jackson and Nolen (2010). “Starting in 2014, insurance companies cannot deny coverage based on preexisting conditions to anyone (2010).” This should mandatory after this bill is passed.
