Jessie is a thirteen year girl, who lives in Clifton 1840. In reality, outside of Clifton it is 1996. Her entire life she has been lied to by her parents, teachers, and the people she trusts the most. There are cameras all over the town and everyone in the town is being watched. Jessie has been living a lie. Lying affects her evolution of character, by her not being able to trust many people because she has been lied to by the people she trusts the most. It will affect her by her second guessing everyone and misunderstanding of people. “sometimes jessie wanted to be an adult right away, so she could learn all of the secrets…(6)”. For example, Mr. Neely was supposed to be a friend of Ma’s, and was supposed to help Jessie, but it turns out that he was not who he said he was and he is sent out to kill her. His real name was Frank Lyle. He said that he was Mr. Neely and he was going to help her, but really, he was not going to help her and he was going to kill her. He said, “...
