Although war is made to help countries and people, it brings out the worst in people because war destroys lives and relationships. In this book The Things, They Carried by Tim O’Brien we will be comparing it to Life is beautiful the movie. The Things They Carried and Life is beautiful both take place during wars. Life is Beautiful is about an Italian Jew, his wife, and his son was put into a concentration camp during world war 2. War makes us Demons/monsters because of killings and the effect it has on us.

War shows the worst in us by taking away friends getting injured and having to go through with the mental hurt. “I threw a grenade that exploded at his feet and killed him”(131). Tim O’Brien had killed someone and in the book, he says that he now writes to keep himself away from the fact that he “Killed” someone. “The day Azar strapped it to a claymore antipersonnel mine and squeezed the firing device”(118). Azar blew up Tim O’Brien’s dog up, that's just messed up in the head to do but if he needs to do it to save people he has to do it. The two examples show how messed up the war has treated them in a mental way.

“My conscience told me to run, but some irrational and powerful force was resisting like a weight pushing towards the war”(52). He was running away but he wanted to go to fight and that shows the good in the book. Another way that the war brings the best out of someone is when Guido makes the concentration camp into a game with his son. This shows how nice people can be by always helping even in the worst
