Link Crew Reflection

Ever since I was a child, my parents talked to me about character. They would always say it is about giving back to your school and your community, being a leader, and maintaining integrity in all facets of life. This definition of character is what I have tried to live by in my 17 years of life. Every week I volunteer at Turpin for over 12 hours working with our athletic trainers; I help injured athletes who come out of games with cuts, concussions, MCL sprains, ankle sprains, and many other injuries. This has taught me how to help people who might be under a lot of stress and keep them calm while trying to treat their injuries. I also am a Link Crew leader which has allowed me to help freshmen through the transition period from middle school to high school. These two activities have allowed me to be involved on a weekly basis and help people in my school community. On Friday nights when our student body comes together to support our football team, you won’t find me in the student section; I will be on the sidelines assisting Turpin’s athletic trainers in an intern capacity. I have gotten to work with the new freshmen here at Turpin, and have gotten to know them really well throughout this school year. Coming into Turpin can be very scary, but being a Link Crew leader has allowed me to try and make the transition easier for my group of freshmen and hopefully set them up for a prosperous high school career. Link Crew is so wonderful because it allows freshmen to have an instant connection with an upper classman if they need help with a class, have a personal problem, or just need someone to talk to. I see my freshmen twice a week during homeroom and all we do is talk, play games, laugh, and have fun. I love working with the freshmen class as a Link Crew leader because it has allowed me to connect with a group of freshmen I otherwise might not have met this
