INTRODUCTION Although music has always personified the culture from which it originated, it has also been the most freely shared mediums between cultures. As new instruments and techniques are embraced by musicians; they are synthesized with the artist’s own styles and music genres then form or evolve with each generation. Musical globalization has been evolving for centuries. The process has just more rapidly developed over the last 50 years with the advent of modern transportation and electronic communications.

The band continues to play worldwide, energizing the crowds with their explosive live performances. “I’ve always wanted our show to be energetic”, says Hahn. “We use drum pads, samplers, and turntables with original vinyl to perform all the sample parts live on stage, which I think brings an exciting uniqueness to the songs” 1. The energy of the band’s live performance has given them a strong foundation of dedicated fans worldwide, and helped propel the band’s record sales into the millions.
Their second album, Meteora, Rolling Stone has called “twelve songs of compact fire indivisibly blending alternative metal, hip-hop, and turntable art”. The name of the album was selected during their European tour in 2002 after seeing pictures of Meteora in a travel magazine. (Meteora is a group of six monasteries perched atop rock pinnacles rising 1500 feet above the plains of central Greece. The Greek word literally translates as “hovering in the air”. 4) To date, the album has shipped 14 million units worldwide.
SIGNIFICANCE I believe Linkin Park’s strongest significance lies in their ability to connect with their audience with the blended stylings and to convey emotional truths through their songwriting. They write about what is relevant to their fans.
