Lion’s Quest is an educational program to help better the youth not only in schools but also in their daily lives as well. This organization feels that young people should excel outside of the classroom just as much as in the classroom to be a well-rounded person. The program is intended for students all the way from Kindergarten to Seniors School. They want the students to have drug awareness as well as live a productive life (Lion’s Quest).
Lion’s quest is a program that was started in 1975. A teenager named Rick Little wanted to help other young people develop themselves into becoming successful adults. The main tool to helping this program be so effective is the “Lions”. Lions are the leaders of this organization. They help the mission on a local as well as an international level. The help to train both teachers and parents, speak to the youth, and help with special projects. People can benefit from this program with only twenty to thirty minute classes once a week. They offer both in-class and afterschool programs for drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention. The program also offers one to two day classes trained by the highly qualified Lions. During these classes, the lions will instruct the teachers on the things they need to do to help the students develop their skills in appropriate decision making, a positive attitude, and character building. Lion’s Quest also offers many handbook and guides for someone to use if need be. These include guidelines for teachers as well as students. Each of these books is broken down into specific units covering different topics along with a lesson for each topic. Each of these lessons is developed on a research and evidence basis (Lion’s Quest).
LCIF recognizes that without the great work from their well trained Lions, that the program would not be as productive as it is. Therefore, LCIF recognizes awards to not only the Lions, but also the places hosting the event. These include the champion award for the Lions, club achievement award, and district achievement award.
