Literacy Instruction: Chapter Analysis

Literacy instruction is a key component of elementary education and student success. Literacy exists everywhere in our world – in the books we read, newspapers, billboard signs and on products and foods we encounter in our everyday lives. Given this knowledge, I like how our authors Alvermann, Swafford, and Montero define the term literacy to “encompass all of the bits and pieces of communication that make up our lives” (Alvermann, Swafford and Montero, 2014, p 4).
