The play Romeo and Juliet is about a five day period in which a young man drops his love for a girl for a different young girl. This doesn't start good, because the two “lovebirds” are on opposite sides of rivaling families. Since the two kids’ families are always fighting the ending of this play is very tragic. The best literary terms that the author William Shakespeare uses in his play Romeo and Juliet that fortify it and make it great are suspense, character motive, and the use of a protagonist.
The protagonist in Romeo and Juliet was the extraordinary Romeo. Romeo was the protagonist in this playwright, because this story mainly was about him and he had the most parts in it. This occurs when we first meet Mercutio and realize that he is very well-liked, because of his sense of humor and fearlessness. A perfect character motive example can be why Romeo kills the malicious Tybalt, this is an example because their is a specific reason why he does it. Romeo kills Tybalt, because he wants revenge after Tybalt kills Mercutio. Another time character motive occurs is when Romeo and Juliet kill themselves. Romeo does it, because he thinks Juliet is dead and he doesn't want to live without her. Juliet kills herself, because of the same reason as Juliet, but he is actually dead. A quote that refers to character motive is “Is Romeo slaughtered, and is Tybalt dead? My dearest cousin and my dearer lord. Then, dreadful trumpet, sound the general doom.
