Wiesel shows many examples of tone in the book “Night.” One example of tone is when Elie starts to hate the officers for yelling at them during the run. “That was when I started to hate them, and my hatred remains our only link today. They were our first oppressors. They were the first faces of hell and death. They ordered us to run. We began to run. Who would have thought that we were strong? From behind their windows, from behind their shutters, our fellow citizens watched as we passed.” Elie shows hatred every single day toward the officers for murdering the poor innocent jews and his very own innocence and childhood. His experience in that time would forever shape him, and his experiences would never leave his mind, for this, his showing hatred is the tone Elie uses toward his first oppressors.
