“Hunting general Zaroff, what you speak of is murder”(Connell 101). In the story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell write about a man who finds himself in a bad situation. A man named Rainsford fall off a boat and ended up on an island. Rainsford meets another man name Zaroff and soon finds out that Zaroff hunts human and is going to hunt him. In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell uses irony, theme and characterization to develop the plot. The uses of these literary devices suggest that Connell wanted to make the story more dramatic to the readers.

In the most dangerous game the author uses the literary device, irony to make the story dramatic. In the story Zaroff talks to Rainsford about hunting. “We will have capital hunting, you and I” (Connell 99). This quote says you and I so you think he is talking about

Richard Connell showed indirect characterization survival skills when Rainsford falls off the boat. “Rainsford remembered the shots. They had come from the right ,doggedly he swam in that direction…” (Connell 94). This is dramatic because fell off the boat and had to think what to do using survival skills. The story also gets more dramatic when it tells what Zaroff look like. “...and his smile and showed red lips and pointed teeth.” (Connell 97).
