In Bryce Courtney's book “power of one”, the quote “little can beat big” reveals that the power of confidence can help us reach our goals. The quote “Little can beat big” stood out the most as I read this book, it left me thinking. Throughout the book Peekay was always referred as “little”, being little gave Peekay a lack of confidence in the beginning of the book. Eventually, Peekay become more confident and once he became more confident he was able to set goals. Let's take a look at Peekay's journey as he learns to be more confident. In the beginning of Bryce Courtney's book “power of one”, Peekay started to establish goals after he gained confidence. When Grandpa Chook died, Peekay spit on the judge's shoe. The day after Peekay's fight with the judge, Peekay gets on a train to go home. While he is on the train he meets a new friend “Hoppie”, who is an excellent boxer. As Peekay goes to fight his first boxing match everyone is very shocked at how small Peekay is compared to the other boxers. Hoppie becomes a little bit nervous for Peekay because he is worried Peekay will get hurt. Peekay replies back to Hoppie “Ag, man, the bigger they are the harder they fall.” When Peekay was talking himself up before his match, he obviously had confidence. All of Peekay's opponents were very large compared to him. Peekay’s confidence helped him win because positive thoughts make positive outcomes. His confidence also helped because he knew if he had lost, he had been talking himself up for no reason. His goal was to win and Peekay ended up winning because of his confidence. This supports my claim because, Peekay had the confidence to talk himself up even though he was little, and that helped him reach his goal of being the
