In order for a company to have reason and direction they must have a clear mission and vision statement. A mission statement is designed to emphasize a company’s objectives. These objectives explain why your company exists to both employees and customers. A mission statement has a tendency to be clear and influential. The reason for a vision statement is to outline the purpose of your organization by focusing on its future goals and objectives. The vision should also be enduring and inspirational; meaning if and organization changes it objectives, the vision should stay consistent. (Dark Blue).
Walmart’s mission statement is “Saving people money so they can live better!” “If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone, we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what it’s like to save and have a better life” – Sam Walton. In order to obtain this mission, Walmart has established many distinct policies that allow the company to operate in its own unique way. Some of these policies include: the sundown rule, the open door policy, the servant leadership, and the Walmart cheer. The sundown policy is answering employee, customer and supplier questions on the same day the question is received. The open door policy allows all employees of the company to reach managers at all times and at all levels. Walmart’s servant leadership allows Walmart to be in complete service to their teams, this means leaders are responsible for all teammate’s questions and concerns. Lastly, the Walmart cheer is a structured chant that was created by the founder, Sam Walton. This cheer was designed to lift the moral of employees every morning (Walmart). (Brown).
