Consumers are what make this economy stay healthy. The higher the demand for the products the more work that the consumers get and that leads to more income. Llewellyn Rockwell is an American political commentator and the author of “In defence of Consumerism”. Rockwell's point of view in his article is that everyone has the right to live how they want to and that no one one has control over the consumer other than themselves. The economy relies on the consumers and the consumers rely on the products. A change in the demand of products can affect the economy.
“”Consumerism”is just another word for freedom in the marketplace.”(Rockwell 615) Consumerism is seeing as a bad thing in Juliet Schor's report in “The Creation of Discontent”.

This where Juliet Schor explains to the consumers that its bad to spend money even if their income is well above $100,000.00. A consumer wants speed, improvements, wireless, and access to the newest things. A consumer just wants to have differents to choose from. For example the most economical telephone network would T-Mobile and an expensive one is Verizon Wireless. These two have commercial on tv networks that broadcast for about a minute about their phone company being best one. They compare speed, phones, and coverage. When a verizon Wireless commercial comes on a guy in a suit and a nice car is arriving to work when his phone gets a text but all the consumer sees is the luxurious items being broadcasted to the consumer. As for T-Mobile its a skater riding his state board through an alleyway and calls a local cab to pick him up the torda the middle of the commercial they announce the price at being the lowest and the best coverage for that price. What they do not talk about or show in the commercial is the bad parts which some companies require a good credit or require a contract to be sunig to be approved for the network. The life expectancy of a regular person in the “1900’s was 48 years for women and 46 years for men”(Rockwell 617). With consumerism leading the way to almost doubling the person's expectancy now “women live up to 80 years and men up to 77 years” (Rockwell 617). This was all possible due to consumerism demanding for more research and better products in sanction,hygiene,health care. Llewellyn Rockwell also states that if a person is against consumerism then that is the same to attack life itself. It makes sense because consumerism demands for the newest and advances research to anything that can benefit the human
