The creation of locavore movements in a community is one of the many effective movements that has diffused globally over the past decade. This specific movement is strongly influenced by people, typically from the younger generations who are deciding to have a local food diet. Since a locavore movement is generally organized in a community no more than 100-miles away from the consumer, the included areas are affected in a way that is mostly positive. Instituting a locavore movement is beneficial in building up a foundation for the community’s economy that is then utilized for the needs of that area. Because a majority of consumers have the tendency of purchasing grocery at corporate owned stores, the money spent by those locals leaves the community every time a transaction is made (Maiser). To further explain, local citizens are spending their hard work earnings elsewhere and contributing to the overall area’s economy instead of one’s own neighborhood. With the construction of local markets, a community will soon enough gain back all the lost revenue from corporate stores. A recent case study that concluded in London, implies that a dollar spent locally generates twice as much income for the local economy (Maiser). A common locavore citizen states, “Eating local is better for air quality and pollution than eating organic” (Maiser). Consuming locally grown food will decrease the amount of gas emission from delivery vehicles. On a daily basis, trucks make multiple round-trips delivering to corporate stores that are a long distance away and by doing so, large amounts of carbon dioxide are emitted. This is the fundamental reason why carbon footprint and the greenhouse effect has seen such a large uprising in the past years. A vast number of businesses contradict that when it comes down to preserving the planet, transportation only accounts for 11% of the produced carbon footprint (McWilliams). In reality, that 11% actually makes a tremendous amount of contribution to the already existing greenhouse gas. If each community were to build a local farmer's market, then the providers (farmers) will only have to travel no more than 100 miles to deliver their merchandise. Since the distance from a farm to the nearest local market is shorter, the fuel burned during the delivery will be less resulting in the decrease of the world's carbon
