Comic book movies have been growing in popularity since the mid to late 1990’s. People my age, who grew up reading the comics and watching the animated versions of them, are now adults and still enjoy delving into their childhood imaginations and fantasies, are the reason for their popularity. “Logan” is no different. Hugh Jackman (Logan) and Patrick Stewart (Prof. Xavier) return as the main characters. “Logan” follows the two former X-Men as they try to stay out of sight and out of mind from the rest of the world in the twilight of their lives. “Logan” is one of the more adult oriented comic book movies that has been made, with much more graphic violence, blood, and gore. That being said, I enjoyed this movie. It tapped into my childhood imagination of mutants and evil villains, but also appeal to me as an adult because of the added realism of the violence. Directed by James Mangold, “Logan” was made in a different light than most other comic book movies. In the past, these movies were aimed at children and teenagers. Comic book movies have become more adult oriented, in the past couple of years. “Logan” follows suit with movies like “Deadpool” and the “Dark Knight”, in the since that they show the blood and gore, rather than editing it out. It is a much more serious and almost dark story line. There is a sense of hopelessness and impending doom, throughout the movie. This also adds to the realistic vibe in the movie, knowing that the good guys don’t always win in real life. Without giving away to many plot twists, Logan is unlike any X-Men movie in the past in the sense that The Wolverine is not the protagonist.
