Alexis Perez Block 1 9/17/14 Imagine being stranded on an island due to a horrible plane crash and had to survive not only on the island, but also run from the people that were effected by a tragedy like you? William Golding was familiar with the natural rights laws while writing Lord of the Flies because it was all about the government, the kids tried to make their own leadership/government, some of the kids were trying to take over and have too much power.
It was all about life without a government after the boys got stranded on the island. During the whole movie, the kids had gone out if control because there wasn’t anyone old enough or more responsible enough to take care of them. All there was left was the kids that survived the plane crash. This was all about the kids living in a state of nature and they were having to make decisions on their own without a person in charge. Without someone in charge was making things difficult because they didn’t know the right way to handle each other without violence and acting out.
The children tried to govern each other, but they weren’t actually noticing that they were just trying to make things fair, such as jack and piggy (Lord of Flies). In the movie (Lord of the Flies) Jack was getting a vote from every survivor to find a leader and the vote came to a majority of him being the leader. At the most, he wanted everyone to be treated fair, but some kids, such as jack, didn’t like everyone so he kind of went against what Ralph said. This was also a factor of the island to become chaotic and violent.
Jack, a character from the movie, he took control and took advantage of his power of being a hunter and went against some of the boys. Jack had turned Piggy into a scapegoat and was always mean to him. He also was taking over the older boys and forcing them into being violent because he thought it was “ okay”. Later in the movie, jack had become a “commander” because he had lots of power physically and mentally. Jack was kind of a dictator because he was the one person taking control of everyone and he didn’t let anyone else have power.
Some people might argue that those aren’t factors of things you have to do if you were stranded somewhere, take control, because there isn’t someone higher than them to take care of the situation. There needs to be someone to make sure that everyone stays in line and make sure people are following the rules that they made. If no one was doing those things, then everyone would be making the situation worse than it already has been. There might’ve been less chaos if the other kids would follow Jack’s instructions.
Also, some people may argue that Jack was doing what he did intentionally because he thinks he is bigger, better, and stronger. Jack did this because he felt that he should help control the kids. He didn’t like that Ralph got to be the leader. His “acting out” wasn’t purposeful, he just wanted to be the leader
