The beast.The pig head. Ralph. These are all symbols William Golding uses in the book Lord of the Flies. Lord of the flies is a book about a bunch of school boys who crash on an island and have to be able to survive. when William Golding was writing this book , William Golding uses symbolism to explain how Evil and darkness in a man's heart ,all lies within us. The beast is used as a symbol because it is representing Savagery to show author's purpose. In the beginning of the book we are introduced to the “beast”. The beast is an imaginary beast that the boys had thought was real and as the book went on the beast got realer. At the end of the book in chapter 12 Golding had written; “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man's heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called piggy”(Golding 202), When this had been said Ralph had just landed on the beach from being chased by the huntsmen and finds an officer and begins to cry. Showing the author's purpose of inner evil through ralph, when the realization had hit and known that it was safe, the tears were not of joy but of sadness knowing how innocence no longer there, but inner evil is inside of everybody. Even in civilization there is evil in a man's heart. This all ties together because knowing that there is evil inside of everybody, you know longer have your innocence.

Golding had used symbolism in a unique and challenging way. When using the beast, the lord of the flies, and ralph all to represent the author's purpose of inner evil, was a very creative way. Each symbol has a different way of explaining the author's purpose. the beast, The Lord of the flies and ralph all tie together in some way. He had shown true inner evil and that it is inside of everybody, and that innocence is only a matter of
