It has been three years since the rescue, but Raph still wakes up every night, due to the constant vivid dreams and night terrors of what happened when he and the others were stranded out on that remote, evil island. He has tried and tried to re enter himself into society but no matter how much effort he seems to spill out of himself, he feels no more included or welcome with these civilized people, he's just left disappointed and exhausted. The doctors insisted that it would be good for him, but ralph does not trust anyone. he seen that under pressure everyone will crack, so it's better to just not let anyone in. Ralph fears leaders and authority. He remembers what power did to Jack on the island, Ralph likes to be in charge and is very uncomfortable when others are. He never went back to public school, The military paid for home schooling so he did not have to be in uncomfortable situations with others. He tells his family that when he is done school, he is going to start a search and rescue team so that no one is ever left behind. Ralph never lost his ability to be a leader, a friend, or a member of british society. He is just holding on to the last, tiny, bit of childhood innocence that he has left. Ralph grow up way too fast, his ability to trust and know joy was stripped from him. Ralph mostly blames the war. he would have never been on the plane had it not been happening, and the fellow boys might not have been so quick to go violent.
