LOTF vs Lost Even though Lost and Lord of the Flies (LOTF) are 70 years apart they still show the characteristics of the human mind in a survival situation. In both the tv show and the book there was controversy on whether some characters were murdered or not. Some think twas murder some think it wasn’t. Murder is the killing of someone through malicious intent. In US there is first degree and second degree. In document A it states that first degree is characterized by planning and second degree is intent to harm someone. In the book LOTF a guy named guy Simon perished. Simone died when he came out of the woods and scared all the people when it was dark. He also decided to scare them after Roger already scared everyone by pretending to be the beast. This actually, I think, was manslaughter. The friends created a circle and felt safe by doing it. In the dance they shouted, “kill the beast!! Cut his throat!!! Spill his blood!!” I also think it’s manslaughter, document C, the boys were all scared of the beast. They heard a noise in the woods and out of terror they chanted louder , it also says that one of the boys broke the circle because of his terror. He got a big piece of shrapnel lodged in his stomach from the plane crash. Jack, the doctor, tried hard to save him but just couldn’t. In document C, Jack was determined to save Mars but he couldn’t without the proper medicine. Jack got the shrapnel out but he’s still suffering. Kate and Sawyer talk about taking him out of his misery, Sawyer decides to kill him with the gun but misses his heart and hits his lungs. According to Jack, Mars would have internal bleeding and have a painful death. They choke him out to end it. This is second degree murder because as stated in document A, they intentionally killed him. According to document C, Jack intentionally killed Mars to mercy
