The mythological mountain archetype is a situation that presents itself frequently in literature. This occurs when a Christ figure searches for the truth, or an object of value. On this endeavor, the character faces obstacles that obfuscate their path to a specified destination; therefore, they must overcome these difficulties and tackle any hardships that impede the journey. In turn, they reach their goal and spread the gift of their newly ascertained boon. In The Lord of the Flies, William Golding presents a scene with Simon in which this scenario occurs on the fictive island.
