LOSS LOSS is something that everyone has experienced at some point in their life. I LOSS my father when I was 3 years old. There are different meanings to the word LOSS and I am referring to death. Everyone has their own way of coping with LOSS. Whether it is LOSS of a loved one or more simple things like losing the car keys. Some people let losing something or someone overtake their life. They drown in their sorrow. What are some ways that one can overcome LOSS? According to Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary, LOSS is defined as “the person, thing, or amount lost”. The word LOSS scarcely survived in Middle English. Shakespeare shares with us his own view of LOSS in Romeo and Juliet (IV, V, 28). He says, “Death lies on her like an untimely frost / Upon the sweetest flower of all the field.” The speaker is saying that “She’s dead, like a beautiful flower, killed by an unseasonable frost.” Some may read this quote and say that the person is grieving and that death has taken her so suddenly, like when a flower is frozen and it just freezes so instantaneously.
