Everybody makes mistakes, so do you think that they lead someone to success? I think that mistakes do lead to success, or they are a part of helping the person reach success. As said by author Samuel Smiles, “We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery.”
Often mistakes help us come up with ideas for new inventions or discoveries. They might even lead straight to what they are looking for. In Lost Cities, Lost Treasure two adventurers were seeking the lost city of Troy. Heinrich Schliemann had partnered with Frank Calvert to dig up the city of Troy and prove it existed. However, Schliemann decided he knew exactly where to dig and he started doing his own thing. This was a mistake. While digging he began to damage the artifacts but while he was at it he found treasure. As said in Lost Cities, Lost Treasure, “Schliemann’s careless actions erased important clues to Troy’s past.” He did take away artifacts, but he did prove that Troy existed and that there was treasure that lay beneath.

In Praise of Careful Science it says,”It is too easy to say without mistakes, no discoveries can be made. Most mistakes do not lead directly to discoveries.” Although this may be true that one mistake does not lead to a discovery, but they help you along in the process. Mistakes tell you what not to do next time or what to improve on. In a way, they do help lead to success.
