The screenwriters for, Lost Highway includes Barry Gifford and David Lynch; who was also the Director. The film in general got a lot of mix responses and that’s probably because of the film’s story. As a viewer of Lost Highway I didn’t know what to say after the movie, it was a weird yet interesting movie. The main question we are left is who is the mystery man and why did we go from Fred to Pete? According to Meriam Webster, “a person who writes screenplays” (Webster), Their relationship with the director are usually pretty close and the director tends to jump into the screenwrite point of view and helps him create the script. One afternoon, Mr.Eddy comes into the garage, asked Pete to come with him to check his car. Pete gets in and they go on a ride along, during the ride along, there is a tailgator and Mr. Eddy who is driving lets him pass then he tailgates him and actually hits the other car on purpose causing him to swerve and stop. Mr. Eddy gets off his car and points the gun the person who was tailgating him, and tells him to slow down and to not tailgate anyone. Mr. Eddy beats him up and takes off. At this scene we now know what Mr. Eddy is capable of doing. Pete gets off his car and fixes the problem. Hops back in and Mr. Eddy drops him off back to the garage. The next day Mr. Eddy stops by the garage and this time with a lady friend name Alice. From the audience view, Alice looks a lot like Renee. Eddy stops by just for a check up and to introduce Alice to Peter. The next night, Alice goes to the garage and tells Pete to invite her to dinner, Pete however doesn’t wanna get in trouble with Mr. Eddy and so she goes on and calls for a cab. Pete grabs the phone and hangs up and tells her to give him a second to change so they may proceed to dinner. Pete and Alice start a sexual relationship behind Mr. Eddy’s back. Eddy goes to the garage and tells him if he ever touches Alice he will put his gun in his rear and blow his brains out. And we can call this movie quite “scary” for young viewers, however we must remember this film was released in the late 90’s. The audience might had a different perspective on what scary film is. According to filmsite.org, their definition of film noir is perfect, “Film noir films (mostly shot in gloomy grays, blacks and whites) thematically showed the dark and inhumane side of human nature with cynicism and doomed love, and they emphasized the brutal, unhealthy, seamy, shadowy, dark and sadistic sides of the human experience” (Dinks). The relationship between the director and screenwrite may vary. Top movies are usually directed and written by the same director, or they work super close together in order to perform a great movie. A great example, is James Cameron who got elected as the number 1 film writer and director. His movies like Titanic, Avatar, and Terminator 2 gave him the qualities to win the best director and screenwriter award.
