Neil Simon’s play Lost in Yonkers takes places in 1942 in Yonkers, New York. One of the major themes from the play is care and love of family. Bella depicts the care of family theme in Act II. When the monologue begins, Bella just returned to the apartments and telling the family about her future with Johnny. Bella explains to her family how she desires a wonderful future with Johnny. As the scene begins,Grandma tells Bella that how important she is in this family. And warned Bella to not trust Johnny and do not leave this family. But Bella wants a happy family with healthy babies so much. Bella means that she can have healthy babies and teach them to be happy. She is proving herself by saying she is strong and worked in store and taken care of Grandma since she is twelve years old. She will ‘love them and take care of them’. And she promises that she will not let them get sick like her or be weak like Eddie and Louie. Bella shows how much love and care she can give to her babies. Bella displays the love and care she needs is to providing for Bella’s need. Bella also says that never to make her babies spend their lives rubbing her back and her legs because Grandma never had anyone around who loved her enough to want to touch her because she made it so clear she never wanted to be touched with love.Bella try to tell Grandma she is hard like steel, and she want to be warm and soft with her children that she will be a …show more content…
But it is deathly silent in the house. No one has moved. Grandma gets up slowly, walks to her room, goes in, and quietly closes the door. Bella is very upset because she desperately wants marriage and a baby, and Bella believes she has love to give to her children. Even she didn't get that much from Grandma. She still dream about it. So after She met Johnny, came to Grandma and beg her let her have her own happiness to have have someone she love before she
